I would first check all the connections by taking them all apart and giving them a good cleaning. Sounds like you have a bad
connection and when you jumped it, it it arced the bad connection so any contact you had was lost.
As Farmer says; "CYG, CYG, CYG" (check your grounds)

Subject: [AT] Tractor Engine Won't Start

:
:
: The other day I tried to start my IH-140 but it barely turned over,
: suspecting
: the battery being low, after sitting all winter, I hooked the jumper
: cables to it,
: connected to my van. When I tried to start it....absolutely nothing.
: The battery
: wouldn't even begin to engage the starter. Nothing got shorted out
: during hookup.
:
: Why wouldn't the starter kick it over ? If it turned the engine over
: before, why
: wouldn't it real turn over when jumped ?? Could the starter go out that
: quickly ??
:
: What do you suspose happened ?
