Hello all,

Saturday found Dad and I at the auction for the late Fred Jickling of
D'Arcy, SK.

The weather was awesome and the auction was great! Stuff went cheap and
in large lots, which made me very happy. The auctioneer was actually a
little too quick with the "Sold!" and several items went for way less than
they could have. Good for the buyer - bad for the seller. Pretty much
everything was in fairly poor condition, and/or half torn apart and not put
back together, so the pickin's were good.

Some of you asked for prices. Here are a few numbers I wrote down:

Tractors: (None running)

JD D (styled) - Seized/rough $200
McCormick 15-30 (early model) - Seized/rough	$50
McCormick W-6 on steel - Seized and rough	$400
JD AR (styled) - Would run easy w/some TLC	$1250
JD M - Would run easy. Nice. $2200
1940 Case L on steel - Restored/decaled	$1100

Stationaries: (None running)

Various IHC LB's sold from $50 to $200
Two Fairbanks Morse Z model D's $75 and $85
John Deere 1-1/2HP E (complete) $750
John Deere 3HP E (complete) $1800
T. Eaton (Stover) - poor and incomplete	$80

Breakdown: The JD M was a good deal as was the Case L. The JD AR had
issues but would be ok. The W-6, the JD D, and the 15-30 were scrap. As
for the engines they were mostly IHC LB's but the JD E's were nice "barn
fresh" engines with mags and compression and probably would have ran if
asked nicely. They were costly though...

The deal of the day (in my opinion) was the Case L for $1100. My
tractor-buddy Brian showed up and bought it and was mightly pleased. After
the sale as he was arranging for transport down the road to his grandma's
quonset, a few lads gathered together and tossed some fuel in, found a fan
belt, and started crankin'. Well be darned if it didn't get up and go!
After a bit o' tweaking they drove off into the sunset - literally!
Everybody was all smiles.

Here is a picture of the tractor from the sale website:

As for myself, I bought two radiators, one I believe is for a Wallis Cub Jr.
- super neat find! The other rad is from a Packard, and is going to give up
it's core so that I can try my hand at radiator building as I need another
Wallis 20-30 rad. I also managed to buy three nice early base-mount
magnetos. One is an Eisemann, and the other two are brass cased Splitdorf
mags. Very nice. Let's see... what else - Oh yeah, I scored several good
John Deere D head gaskets too. Finally, the sale headed down the road to
the back 40 where the cars and scrap piles were, and I managed to buy 50
steel wheel 2-bolt spade lugs for $5. Yay!

What a fine tractor day it was. I ran into lots of tractor and engine
friends, and many stories and opinions were exchanged. Days like that are
what life is really all about.
