Ed, do you think priming might be necessary because it sat dry for so long?

You might have to prime the oil pump by taking off the fitting where the
oil pressure gauge hooks to the motor and pumping in a half a quart or
so.  You should get enough top end oil to make a decent mess while the
engine runs.
