	I spent my time cultivating corn and soy beans with a team of
horses. Looking at this rig, they have those cultivators socked way
down, even too deep, IMHO.  I'd say they were trying to make it look
good for the photographer. They may even have raked some dirt up
against the shields for the photo. All that is necessary for cultivation
is to run the sweeps or shovels just under the top and cut the roots on
weeds. No need to cover them up or anything. Keeping loose dirt on top
of the ground also prevents rapid evaporation of moisture in the soil.
Nice picture but I was glad when the days of cultivating with horses came
to an end, and so were the horses. Give me a tractor any day and save
the nags for riding.
