[AT] Plow share questions?

Brett:

Thanks for the additional info. I think I am learning that a regular full
cut share extends past the moldboard a bit whereas a "clipped wing" or
"narrow cut" does not. I've learned that the full cut is used where when the
user is concerned about getting a complete root cut in instances like
plowing alfalfa. However, the narrow cut works well in most instances and
requires less power.

Sometime this spring or early summer I need to plow about 5 acres of land
that hasn't been plowed in years. It has been growing a good crop of wild
grass and weeds for years. I will probably first need to brush cut the new
growth, then probably have to disc it and then try to plow it. I suspect
that new full cut shares will probably do a better job of getting at the old
and deep root structure. I also suspect I'm going to have some problems with
trash plugging up the plow. It will be an interesting re-learning
experience. But the best part I'll get a bunch of dashboard hours on an
antique tractor! :-)

Dean:

The wing of a plow share is the end opposite to the "point". Regular shares
usually extend out and back past the edge of the moldboard by a few inches,
depending on the size of the bottom. Clipped wing shares don't stick out as
far past the edge of the moldboard, and I think they are the same as the
"narrow cut" shares you mentioned. I have one clipped wing share for my
Ferguson plows that is identical in every way to a standard share, except
that the "wing" is about three inches shorter. Sorry I never got a chance
to see what the manual has to say about them and report back, I had a date
with a girl named Allis last night, and I didn't get home 'til late. Don't
worry, my wife knows all about her... I'll check this evening, for sure.

Not sure I know what "clipped wing" means either.
