The Pageant of Steam is having the 44th annual show this year.
It is going to be from Thursday, August 12th to Sunday, August 15th.
It is at the showgrounds approx a mile or so east of the Canandaigua
City Line just off Routes 5 and 20 in the Finger Lakes region of western
New York. Midway between Syracuse and Rochester and just 5 miles south
of I-90, the New York State Thruway, it is very easy to get to.

It offers primitive camping but is not set up as fancy or as
slick as the Portland showgrounds which could be a model for what the
ideal show should be. Campers here are in a row along a tree line to
the very rear of the showgrounds and the facilities are very primitive
compared to Portland. So are the eating facilities, IMHO. There are
campgrounds in the area for motor homes and campers of most kinds so
accomodations can be found. Drainage has always been a problem here
and with the black soil in the area, there is almost always a lot of
mud to contend with.

As I told Mike's wife, I have only missed a couple shows here
in the past 25 years but have never had the urge to camp here and don't
even know anyone who does. A lot of people do and maybe some of them
will comment if they see this post and can provide more information.

Is that what you wanted to know?

Cecil
