Folks,

Be sure to carefully compare the output shaft on your swap candidate. Would suspect that the chain wrap coupling arrangement (don't know the official name) between the engine and transmission probably will not tolerate any variance. Never had mine off, but have heard they can be a bear to put on if things are not lined up just right. Of course, this would be a nit problem if he is really in for a power change. Somebodies must be making decent workaround parts, as I have heard of (but not seen) the following swaps in a 44-6 for working tractors:

Buick Straight 8
Chrysler Industrial Engine (these look similar from a distance to the Continental)
Cat Truck Engine

>From the 50's on, these tractors have been great favorites of pullers. This is likely due, I suspect, to:

- the relatively low resale value of these tractors, largely due to lack of hydraulics
(Have yet to see one with hydraulics, though the list has talked of them)
- very strong power trains, especially for the money
- the way the engine mounts cleanly on the frame (without a big flange mount at rear)

Bet this tractor has accepted one of the largest variety of engine swaps on the pulling circuit. Wonder what the biggest engine was that stayed in very long.
