Rob as a child who drew SS for many year I think it really  helped my mother 
who refused to get any welfare. She raised us six kids on what  she could earn 
and the SS it wasn't a lot back then but it helped put food on  the table and 
I never remember being hungry because the cubbard was bare.  
during the War mother was an Aircraft Mechanic at McClellan AFB and that  
helped all of us live alittle better.
I didn't know i was poor until I grew  up ans asw the other kids had.
