[AJD] one good deal left at John Deere Parts counter

Greg, don't listen!
The clutch on my 820 has needed some attention, I've always been
worried, so I committed myself to installing as many new parts as I
could. After the Gathering of the Green, Mike Williams gave a very
depressing saga of how clutch parts have skyrocketed. And he's right,
I wanted to put new dogs and toggles in that clutch 3 years ago and
priced them, then even last year the prices were over 200% higher!
Well, Mike said that clutch bolt prices have gone out-of-site, so I
looked them up and they only came up on jdpartsonline for $3.83 each,
so I ordered 3 immediately. Well, went to pick them up and the guy at
the parts counter gave me a song and dance about how they were priced
at $63 each in his computer. No sale. Wouldn't listen to how I was
quoted a price on jdpartsonline, he just said, "Well, we don't have
access to that system"...... uh huh.
So a month later I had to order some more parts and those bolts were
still in my cart. So what the hey, they still showed the same price,
so I ordered them again. Only THIS time, I hit the 'shift+print
screen' buttons and printed the screen capture out in irfanview so that
I had some proof when I returned to pick up my stuff. Sure enough, the
parts guys says something like "You're the one that ordered those
expensive bolts....." and I say, "well they sure weren't supposed to
be" as he brings them out. He says "they're clutch bolts right?" I
said "Yes, but my print out shows them at $3.83" and he brings them up
on his terminal and sure enough the list showed $63 but the net column
said $3.83. I don't know if this was before or after he manually
adjusted the entry though, but he just looked at me and said "well, I
guess you're right" and smiled as he handed over the bag.
I was fully impressed with his integrity upon leaving the store
(Strackbein's in Tipton, IA).
Just thought I'd share the luck if any of you are in the need.
Steve
