[AT] OT: Search Engines

Yahoo used to use Google technology until recently. Yahoo is a big reason
why Google is famous. Now Yahoo has their own search engine that is very
"Google-like" in its results. No sure there is much more than a shade of
difference between the engines. However, Yahoo's categorization and
directory style presentation make finding a subject or business VERY easy
and it the main difference between them. For instance, you need info on
Mutual funds(a thing, person, or place) just go to that category and
everyone and everything that matters at all will be there:

s/

However, non-relational information that defies categorization, historical
information, or just plain weird facts, I use Google. For instance
information on how to hone cylinders,(a method), or the inventor of the
diesel engine (historical).

In the end, I find Yahoo is more useful than Google more often than I find
Google is more useful than Yahoo. Hope that makes sense. (-; I like and
use both. I go out and try the others occasionally just to see if there
is anything I like or am missing . I used Dogpile years ago, liked it but
then they had a spell of trouble and I stopped using it.

Having said all that, just remember: Search engine usefulness is VERY
subjective because of the way we all frame queries and our desired results
and expectations are very different. Take my professional opinion on that
because I have written applications that search library catalogs and a good
search engine is ONLY as good as its' user.
