[AT] OT, sort of: Harm in keeping clutch engaged while stopped?

I always thought is was to limit throw-out and pilot bearing wear.  It is
stressed in old Cat manuals.
However, eventually the "brake" that stops the clutch pack when the clutch
is disenguaged
wears out and it's a pain to get into gear from N and the tranny spinning.

Think of how many tractors with two stage clutches ran AC bales and had to
sit with the clutch
half out while it wrapped the bale.
