[AJD] air dryer for painting

I'm getting close to shooting paint on the JD H I'm restoring.  Thought I'd better work out an air dryer; I learned on this list a while back what a little moisture does to the paint job and indeed I recognized the symptoms from past experience.  What is the theory on an air dryer; are they trivial to make?  Are they inexpensive to buy?  What is the difference between a good one and a bad one?

I haven't painted for several years, I'm looking forward to this primer-colored tractor coming back to life!
