[AT] Parting out tractors - what are your thoughts?

I am fortunate in having almost unlimited storage space out here , just make
another clearing in the bush if things get too crowded. And today was one of
those days that made all those years of saving machinery worthwhile.
I had a breakdown on the Massey baler yesterday. This baler has a 3 joint
p.t.o. shaft and for some reason, the center bearing holder just snapped.
The bearing was still fine, but that cast holder was going to be expensive
and I have never had much luck welding cast iron. Just out of curiosity I
checked the junkyard , specifically the old pull type Massey Ferg swather
that dates back to the mid sixties. Sure enough, a 3 joint p.t.o. shaft,
smaller u joints but the centre bearing and cast holder looked like a match.
I soon had that baler working again with the only cost being a couple of
hours of my (cheap) labour and some liquid wrench.
On the downside, a thunderstorm hit before I could finish the baling but at
least I got in a test run with the baler.
