[AT] Parting out tractors - what are your thoughts?

It isn't fun to think about, but the economics of the situation are that
you can make more money parting out even a show tractor than to try to
sell it whole and in running order. I know some of the dealers who set
up booths at Portland every year and who make their living dealing in
tractors and parts. A couple of them have told me personally that they
don't like to part out a tractor that can be fixed, but people won't pay
enough for a whole tractor to make it worthwhile for the dealer to sell
it like that.

I visited with one up in Michigan just a couple months ago who showed me
three tractors that were all in "field ready" condition. He's been
unable to get any bids on them as whole tractors, so he'll part them
out.

I sold him a Gibson that basically just needed an engine. He won't even
advertise it as a complete tractor and probably already has it in pieces
ready to be transported to Portland. He'll make several times as much
by parting it out as what he paid me for it.

Larry

George;

If it was me I'd put it back together with a rebuilt engine and keep it,

but I only have one cub.

I'd like to find one like that out this way, looks like it's in nice
shape. And I've always wanted a lowboy

Too bad I don't know anybody going out to the mid west with a trailer
and some space. But then again maybe I do.
Seems Cecil has that new trailer he needs to keep filled. I'd even be
interested with out an engine, seems I have an EXTRA in the garage.

Maybe you can find someone willing to pay close to what it's worth in
parts, that would buy it completely together.... What do you figure
it's worth as a parts tractor???

Bob
