That's the way I learned mechaniking - with my dad "supervising."  I was 13 when my grandpa gave me his '46 Willys CJ-2a, and I just tore into it with dad sometimes there and other times letting me do my own thing.  It runs great now almost 13 years later.  If it hadn't been for that project, I may be sending my car to Jiffy-Lube for oil changes!
