Wayne,
    I am a Certified Neurological Registered Nurse (CNRN).  Charlie is 
100% correct.  I am  assuming that she had a hemmoragic stroke, if the 
pressure is not relieved, the brain is forced out of the skull.  Since 
the skull is solid, the only route to go is down the spinal column.  All 
the vital functions are located at the base of the brain, the first part 
to get smushed when this happens.
