What is should be is very personal but I can't imagine working on a dirt
floor. My ideal would be a concrete floor heated with imbedded hot water
pipes. And yes with many rubber floor pads for comfort

I think it is opinion time,
What material should your shop floor be, and why is this material the best.
For example,
Dirt - That is what was there when the barn was built so it is already 
cut to size, cheap too.
