John , I should take the camera out to the shop but havent . Well after
dinner settles I'm going out .
Its a cute little machine , and built pretty stout compared to the struck
kit . It uses a 4 "pitch chain made like the biguns ,only on a smaller scale
.
I dont know if it was a good choice but I found dom steel tube with the same
inside and outside measurments as the bushings . Saw it to length , turn the
ends to fit into the links and just drop a reamer thru the bore to clean up
the inside . Pins are made from 4140 round stock and are held in with a
cotter pin on each side . Somewhere along the line some of the pins had
been replaced with bolts and while it would save a lot of time . But lately
I've had some bad experience with using bolts . So I going to go the
difficult way .
Dont know if youre familiar with DOM tube , it is a seamless tube that is
drawn over a mandrel to get the bore size . This stuff in particular has an
outside of 1.250 with a bore of .625 tolerance of + .002 od Id +
.000
Its kinda tough , as it is what is used on the backhoe for bushings . I've
had it now for maybe 5 yrs . Only problem has been with the pins but since
they are just a straight pin with holes in the ends they're so easy to
replace .
Side plates are forged steel welded onto the track plates .
Well not a full resto , as it is ment to work/play alongside the farmall
. Although I have considered putting them on the trailer this coming summer
and going to a couple shows . Ivan
