Hi,

I have used them all. I like reed tachs. They are simple, reliable and work
every time as long as you do not need to know the RPM to the last digit.
There is two types...in the can types and variable stick slide types. I use
the stick slide types because I can read from 10 RPM to 10,000 RPM on a
gauge set that would fit in my shit pocket. About 30 bucks total.

The strobe types are cool as long as you can mark the item. So is infrared.
They are no touch and do not need any markers. Expensive...$200 used/

Something to consider.

I don't think I made my self clear. I didn't mean total number of times it
saw the blades pass, rather the frequency of the passage. If it did that
when using a 3 bladed prop you would have to divide the readout by 3.
