Think of your shop (and house) wiring a little like you would vehicle wiring. You still need to check the
grounds, check the grounds and check the grounds. :-) You also need to "maintain" all of your connections.
A good friend had an older house that was suffering from dimming and flickering lights. The power company
had replaced all of the infeed wiring from the pole to the meter base but it didn''t help. I told him to pull the
mains (cartridge fuses in this case) and be sure they were clean. Then while they were out to use a well
insulated screwdriver and with the unused hand in his hip pocket to tighten all of the connection screws in the
box. He was flabbergasted at how many of those screws had loosened up over the years. Problem solved...
Even with all of the proper sizes there is always a bit of heating and cooling going on in those wires and
connectors all of the time. Maybe not enough to feel but there none the less. Those connections are not as
static as many might think.
Another quick tip: do not use those silly spring clip connections in the back of some recepticals. Put the
wire under the screws...
