Not sure if anyone remebers but I had a JD 40W that was overhauled and I had
ran it 3 weeks before I couldn't start it. I had verious suggestions from
the list so today I got to try again with a new fist full of parts.
I re-cleaned the carb and replaced some parts there especially a new float.
I had some problem with getting the fuel to shut off right but I think I
have it licked. I put in new points, condensor, dust cap, rotor, cap and
new wires. I even put new plugs in. Although I did forget to screw down
the points but I'll get into that.
Anyway, I replaced things and tested the coil, nice spark. Tested the wire
to the plugs, again nice sparks so I was happy. So I gave it a
shot...nothing. Rechecked the sparks....they were just fine. I'm sure I
have the plug wires on right but I switched them and tried again. It kick
over and caught. It ran ugly a it and quit. Ok switched the plug wires
back and tried again...nothing. That when I remembered that I didn't screww
the points down, saw the screw laying on the seat. So ripped it apart and
tried again. Nothing.
Checked the plugs and they are wet...does that mean something? At the
moment I'm completely lost on this thing and it ran fine in May and June
until I tried it in July. I'm completely frustrated..
On the good side I gave the same treatment to my 40S and its running fine.
HELP!!!!! Anyone close to Bangor PA?
