[AJD] 530 JD - Air Cleaner

Does  anyone have a good or practical method for cleaning the old style oil bath air cleaner ?  I have had the air cleaner from my 530 soaking in Kerosene for about three weeks.  All of the oil residue has been removed but there is a quantity of what looks like plant residue stuck in the metal cleaning medium.  Any assistance would be appreciated...
