Hi Rob,
After your have tried all of the other suggestions (and I like the one about calling your doctor the best), if it still doesn't show any output, try moving the "THIRD BRUSH". Three brush generators use a movable brush to control current output. The brushholder is locked in position with a screw from the outside on the commutator end frame. You will need to loosen the screw a turn or so to move the brushholder. The cutout breaks the circuit between the battery and the generator when the battery voltage equals generator voltage. The suggestion of getting a good automotive electrical book was a start. Problem is, you will have to find a book printed back in the 1940's when three brush generators were still abundant.

Author will not be responsible for you burning up your generator. Generator work should be left to the professionals; If you can find one that knows the old generators.
