Dad always STP'd the rings and piston, main and rod brng's before 
installation.  Then using an adapter would spin the oil pump using an 
electric drill.  Then he'd start it.

  A couple days ago Chevy put out a service bulletin on seating rings in the 
265 V-8, I believe.  Consisted of a couple teaspoons(?) of Bon Ami down the 
carb.
