Putting
out 10 amps isn't much good if the generator is only putting out 2 volts.
Someone correct me if I have this wrong.

Karl in order for the Generator to show 10 amps it would have to have over 12
volts It is supposed to be 14 to 14.5 volts for a generator to charge a 12
volt battery. I'm thinking that he has a bad battery or he has not left it run
long enough for 10 amps to bring it up to normal. The battery when fully
charged should read 12.1 volts. Also it pays to check each cell for full voltage.
If its one of the new sealed batteries then you have to take it to a battery
shop where they have the new very expensive equipment to check it out.
Now if its a 6 volt system then the generator voltage should read 8 volts to
charge the battery. Since you are forcing electrons back into the possitive
plates it take more voltage than the battery is putting out.
Alternators run at about 13.8 volts but unlike generators they can do this
from idle to full throttle as you raise the rpm on a generator it will go from
below 12 volts to 14.5 that why we went to the alternator more efficient at
lower rpms.
