Someone just posted pix + sound movies (MOV) of a large steam crane
currently at work
in Manistee, Michigan.

Site Work Begins for New City of Milwaukee Dock - 04/19
This is a Clyde of about 25 tons capacity, built in Duluth in 1938.
It's essentially identical to the ones I photographed in the early 1980's -

However, it appears to have a different type of boiler.
The original boilers on these cranes were tall vertical firetube,
located between the legs of the a-frame strongback.
I wonder if this might be either a marine watertube boiler, or a flash boiler.
From the article:
Luedtke Engineering's Derrick Boat #12 will be performing much of the site
work.
The 1938 steam derrick boat, originally hand fired with coal, is a
contemporary of the
S.S. City of Milwaukee. "Having the old steam derrick here suits us just fine,"
says Jed Jaworski, curator with the project.
"It's value added, a piece of living history just like the City of
Milwaukee," he adds.
Many spectators are anticipated to watch the derrick boat in operation,
with its myriad
of chug-a-lug sounds and billows of steam. The derrick boat will be utilized to
install sea wall, dredge and drive piling for the new fifty-foot marina slips.
