I just added 61 of the photos I took at the Whitley County, Indiana
Spring Auction the week before last. I tried to show in the photos the
amount of mud and rain that buyers had to put up with to attend this auction.
I stood in the rain myself for an hour and a half to buy a set of lights for
my 52 Cub. I was amazed at the number of very nice restored and unrestored
running tractors that were at this auction. Of the 450 tractors sold, most were
running and a lot of them were beautifully restored. Greg Whittaker was there
for most of the auction and has already furnished prices of many of these
tractors to the List.

I may add something to the captions on some of these later as I get
the time. As a for instance, there are several photos of someone unloading
a very large tractor backhoe from a trailer. This tractor was an Oliver 999
with a large long reach backhoe mounted on the rear of it. The man bringing
it to the auction had it on a long dual tandem trailer and pulled it with a
2500 Dodge pickup. It had to be severely overloaded and the kicker was, he
brought it that way all the way from Ontario, Canada. I figure the reason
he did not get stopped is that the rig was perfectly balanced on the 8 dual
wheels and did not appear to be too much for the pickup. I can't resist
saying this but it does go to show that no load is too much for a Dodge.

Another photo that could use a caption is one near the end, of men
trying to pull a pickup out of the mud with a Farmall tractor. It shows one
of them standing up to his knees in mud with the tractor trying to pull the
pickup sideways on to a blacktop roadway. I was attracted to this scene by
the loud shouting the men made who were trying to help. I guessed that they
were trying to talk over the noise of the tractor. I don't know if they got
this pickup out or not. The entire parking area was a total mess by the time
we left just before noon on Friday. I did not park on the grass. ;-)
